Bidri craft is an ancient metal craft made from the alloy of zinc and copper identified by its characteristic black patina, and it is a legacy handed from generation to generation of skilled craftsmen. Despite its beauty, the future of the craft is uncertain due to lack of soil for crafting, lack of monetary gain, and lack of special status for artisans. This report aims to present Bidri ware from its origin to the present day with reference to its techniques, processes, sustainability and the initiative taken by the government bodies and non-governmental organisations to sustain this craft.
