Gaam Nu Gaurav: Diaspora, Philanthropy and Community Identity in Madhapar

Madhapar is routinely called "Asia's richest village." This study asks what that actually means for the people living there observations with residents, return migrants, and community stakeholders. The findings complicate the headline. Diaspora money has improved public infrastructure - schools, hospitals, community buildings - but fewer households depend directly on remittances than you might expect. Many families run local businesses and do fine on their own. When villagers give back, it's rarely a calculated investment; it's closer to obligation, identity, a way of staying connected to a place even from thousands of miles away.
