This research focuses on the history of Kochi, a successful maritime port town which has developed through centuries of interaction and exchange via trade While traditional perceptions of trade often concentrate on its economic aspect, here it is recognized that trade leads to interactions of different cultural layers within society.This study outlines this process of the surge of communities and groups following the decline of Muziris due to the great flood to the present day city, positioning Kochi within a long duree of maritime exchange.
