Elephants, the state animal of Kerala, hold a special place in the social lives of the people .The central aim of this research is to offer an in-depth account of the underlying causes of increasing elephant abuses reported in the state, rehabilitation process at KERC. The research further emphasis on the human-elephant conflicts due to the India's dense human population and forest habitat destruction. Research also concentrates on captive elephants and difficulties in the reintroduction of rehabilitated elephants into the wild.
